Why choosing the right hospital beds matters
The bed is where the patient spends most of their stay and what staff work with every day: it therefore has to suit the person's clinical condition, mobility and weight.
A suitable bed improves posture and comfort, helps reduce the risk of pressure ulcers, supports respiratory and circulatory function and encourages the patient's independence. At the same time it makes manoeuvres easier for nurses, care staff and relatives, both on the ward and at home.
Our range of hospital beds covers a variety of configurations: from the crank-operated bed with height adjusted by a hydraulic pump to models with four or five motors, lateral tilt, a self-charging battery and a CPR button.
What types of hospital beds are there?
They differ by adjustment system (manual, hydraulic, electric) and by setting: general inpatient care, long-term care, home care, intensive care, delivery rooms and paediatrics.
Manual beds
Adjusted with a crank, they allow the sections of the bed platform, from one to three, to be set according to the patient's needs. A simple solution that requires no electrical power.
Hydraulic beds
On the K012 / H and K012 / HP models the backrest and leg rest are adjusted by crank, while the height is changed with a foot-operated hydraulic pump. Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg are managed by a gas spring.
Electric beds
Electric motors move the backrest, the leg section and, on the more complete models, the height and tilt of the whole platform. They are operated from a handset or from panels on the side rails and footboard.
Bariatric beds
For patients with a high body weight there are bariatric beds with greater load capacity and stability. Contact us to check the configurations available to order.
Long-term care
The 4-motor Floorline-I and Floorline I-Plus lower to a height of 10 cm and, like the Floorline LTC, offer the Auto-Contour and Cardiac Chair positions, useful in prolonged and specialist care.
Home care
The K012 / EA-4M has 4 motors, lockable wooden side rails, a handset for the user and a panel for the carer: a bed designed for the home environment as well.
Intensive care and delivery rooms
Models with 4 and 5 motors, lateral tilt, CPR and a radiolucent mattress platform, plus the LOTUS bed for labour, delivery and obstetric surgery.
Paediatrics
Electric children's beds with a platform extendable from 160 to 190 cm, a control panel in the footboard and a battery for power cuts.
Biocontainment
Beds with a negative-pressure isolation chamber and the STR MK 9 paediatric bed with HEPA-ULPA filtration, for infectious or immunocompromised patients.
Which functions make hospital beds safe?
Side rails, Trendelenburg tilt, CPR release and a backup battery are the functions with the greatest impact on patient safety and on how quickly staff can intervene.
Side rails. They reduce the risk of falls. Depending on the model they are made of PP, ABS or wood; on some beds they follow the movement of the platform, on others they have a slowed descent or automatic locking.
Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg. They tilt the whole platform towards the head or the feet. They can be operated by a gas spring or an electric motor, with angles that reach 12° or 16° on our models.
CPR. A button, handles or the Auto CPR function quickly bring the backrest to a flat position for resuscitation.
Battery. The self-charging or backup battery keeps the adjustments working during a power cut.
The equipment is completed by IV poles, urine bag hooks, corner bumpers, castors with central or diagonal braking, bed extensions and a radiolucent mattress platform covered in ABS.
How do you choose between hospital beds?
Start from the patient's needs (mobility, weight, clinical condition), then assess the type, functions and accessories of the bed in relation to the ward or home where it will be used.
- Patient mobility: the more limited it is, the more electric adjustments and the minimum platform height matter.
- Body weight: for very heavy patients, consider a bariatric bed.
- Clinical setting: critical care requires lateral tilt, CPR and radiolucency; on a general ward 2 or 3 motors may be enough.
- Who provides care: nurse panels, a lockable handset and easy-to-operate side rails simplify daily work.
- Hygiene: ABS surfaces, removable head and footboards and enclosed parts make cleaning easier.
All the hospital beds in our catalogue are available to order and made to measure. Italian public facilities can buy them through MePA, SINTEL, EMPULIA and ETOSCANA, the national and regional e-procurement platforms. For the general requirements for medical devices, see Regulation (EU) 2017/745.

What is the difference between a manual and an electric bed?
On a manual bed the sections are adjusted by crank; on an electric bed motors do the work, operated from a handset or panel. Hydraulic models combine a crank with a foot pump for the height.
Do you also supply hospital beds to private customers?
Yes. For home care we offer beds such as the K012 / EA-4M, and our technicians also carry out maintenance and repair of beds and mobility aids at home. You will find the details on the page mobility aids for elderly and disabled people.
Do electric hospital beds work during a power cut?
Many electric models have a self-charging or backup battery, standard or optional, that keeps the adjustments working during a power cut.
Where do you deliver?
We deliver hospital beds throughout Italy. The products are available to order and made to measure.
