Getting started

Which ward beds should you choose for your department?

It depends on how independent the patient is and how many adjustments staff need: hydraulic models are enough for many general admissions, electric ones reduce the effort for carers, and the Floorline series is designed for prolonged care.

Crank and hydraulic pump

K012 / H and K012 / HP: backrest and legs by crank, height by foot pump, Trendelenburg by gas spring.

Electric with 2 and 3 motors

K012 / ES-2M, K012 / ES-3M and STR PB03-S: motorised backrest and legs, and on the 3-motor models the height as well.

Long-term and home care

Floorline-I, Floorline I-Plus, Floorline LTC and K012 / EA-4M: 4 motors, electric height and tilt, preset positions.

Functions

Useful functions in ward beds

In ward beds, adjustable height, platform tilt, side rails and an easy-to-clean surface are the features that make the difference in daily use.

Platform height

A low platform, down to the 10 cm of the Floorline models, makes it easier for the patient to get in and out of bed; a high platform reduces the strain on carers during hygiene and dressings.

Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg

They tilt the whole platform. On the hydraulic beds and on the K012 / ES they are managed by a gas spring, on the Floorline by a motor.

Preset positions

Fowler, Auto-Contour and Cardiac Chair bring the patient into a seated or semi-seated posture without adjusting one section at a time.

Hygiene and materials

ABS surfaces, enclosed lower sections and removable headboards reduce the areas that are hard to clean.

For an overview of all types, go back to the hospital beds page; if the patient needs intensive monitoring, see the ICU and delivery room beds. Ward beds are medical devices: the general requirements are set out in Regulation (EU) 2017/745.
